Entertain the kids in the house or backyard with this fun form of water play that doubles as a terrific simple science activity.

  1. Fill a clear plastic container with water and add toys, trinkets.
  2. Freeze the water overnight.
  3. The next morning remove the ice block and set out some salt shakers, coloured salt (stir in a few drops of food colouring), a bowl of coloured water, and some plastic syringes.
  4. The object of the activity is for the kids to "free" the toys from the ice by pouring the salt and squirting water from the syringes.
