Wellness - Relaxing and Unwinding Techniques

Whether you are working from home, or sitting in online school, we can all agree that we are spending much more time sitting in a chair looking at screens.

It is important to take some time outs during your day to step away. Here are some easy exercises that you can do at any age. Go through them a few times with your children and then be sure that you include them in both your work day and their school day.

Shoulder Shrug

  • This one you may be familiar with when you ask your children what they would like for dinner. Take a slow, deep breathe in while shrugging your shoulders, lifting them high up to your ears. Hold 3 seconds and then release. Repeat three times.

Yes and No

  • This is an easy one and one that your kids may already be a pro at doing. Have them shake their heads slowly from side to side and then up and down. Pretend to be saying No, No, No 6 times and then Yes, Yes, Yes 6 times. Repeat.

Bear Hug

  • Give yourself a great big hug and release the tension in your back while you’re at it. Put your right hand on your left shoulder and your left hand on your right shoulder. Breathe in and out deeply, gently squeezing the area between your shoulder blades.

If you can incorporate these exercises a couple of times a week to start, they will be a habit in no time at all.
