Fridge Magnets

  • flat, mini art canvases
  • watercolour paints
  • white crayon
  • paint brushes
  • thin magnets (buy them, or use business card magnets you already have on your fridge)
  • hot glue gun

  1. To start, have the kids write their name on a canvas with the white crayon and decorate as they please. Just make sure you press hard enough to leave a good amount of white wax from the crayon on the canvas.  The crayon wax is essential for resisting the watercolours in the next step.
  2. They can add whatever they like – stars, dots, squiggles, lines, etc.
  3. Next, dip your brushes into the liquid watercolours, and brush the colour over your canvases. The white crayon wax repels the paint leaving your name and design to show through the colours. When using watercolours you can dilute the strength by adding a few drops of water if you’d like the colours to be less intense. Rinse, and wipe your brush dry when switching colours. The canvas should soak up the watercolours beautifully.
  4. When everything is dry, parents are to use the glue gun to attached the magnet to the design
