Plastic Bottle Maracas

What you need:

  • Water bottle (or other small plastic bottle with lid).
  • Marbles
  • Beads
  • Dried beans, popcorn kernels
  • Sequins
  • Hot glue gun (or strong glue adhesive non toxic)

We all know children love to make their own music, and they will use anything around the house if they had the chance. Here is a great activity that they can create themselves and then spend hours making their own music.

How to assemble:

  • Step 1: Wash and dry plastic bottles. If the label doesn't peel off cleanly, you may need to use a remover solution to remove all residue. You can always cover up any left overs with a label or stickers.
  • Step 2: Prepare a bowl or a few bowls of all your beads, marbles, beans and sequins and have your child choose what they want and assist them in filling their bottles about 1/3 full.
  • Step 3: Using glue gun or non-toxic strong adhesive, glue the top of the bottle in place. This will ensure that child doesn't open it during play. Let it set overnight.
  • Step 4: If you have personalized labels, you can add them to the maraca or have the child add stickers and then they are on their way to creating and enjoying their own music.

Music makes the world go around!
