Counting with Beans

What you will need:

  • Popsicle sticks
  • Dried beans
  • Craft Glue
  • Sharpie marker

A fun and engaging way that will help your young child with his or her numbers and the start of basic math. First, have them create their own bean counting sticks and then then the learning fun begins.

How to assemble:

  • Step 1: Count out the beans and put them in piles by number 1 - 10. To assist with addition and subtraction, you may want to have multiple sets of numbers to work with once completed.
  • Step 2: Putting drops of craft glue on each stick and glue bean to the stick. Allow to dry completely.
  • Step 3: once completely dry, using the Sharpie number the sticks. That will allow for the number and the beans to act as identifiers while counting with your child.

Once the basic number skills have been established, child can start to play with the sticks.
