Bean Mosaic

What you need for this craft:

  • Variety of seeds, beans, peas
  • Paper plate or canvas or cardboard
  • Glue (white or clear craft)
  • Pencil or pen

Using beans and seeds are an easy way to create colourful works of art in your own home. This can be done on paper or even glued to jars or cans or even a canvas.

If you don't have dry beans or seeds or peas in your pantry, here is a list of what to look out for to buy for this craft:

Options:

Peas: Black-eyed, Green split pea, Yellow split pea

Beans: Navy, Pinto, Red Kidney, White Kidney, Black beans, anasazi beans, Lima beans

Seeds: Sunflower, Pumpkin, popcorn

How to create your art:

  • Step 1: Separate beans and seeds into bowls on your work surface. An easy way are small ramekins or a muffin tin.
  • Step 2: One the work surface (paper plate, canvas, cardboard) the design your child would like to create. It could be abstract, or if they have a photo they would like to create (of their pet, toy, character).
  • Step 3: Working in sections of the pattern or design, liberally spread the glue in the section and lay the beans or seeds in the pattern.

Let glue dry completely before moving.
