Sun-Melted Crayon Art Activity

  • crayons
  • cookie sheet
  • wax paper
  • something to weight your paper down with if it’s breezy

Place a piece of wax paper on a cookie sheet and set it in the sun for a few minutes. When it feels quite warm to the touch, grab a crayon and start drawing. As you colour with your crayons, the heat of the baking sheet will melt the wax, and the crayons will glide smoothly across the surface of the wax paper. Swirl and scribble your colours, experiment by layering two colours together. You can even leave a few crayons scattered on a baking sheet to let the sun completely melt them. You can then squeeze the melting wax out into puddles on the paper
